Portrait Painting Demonstration with Theodore Xaras: The Expanded Palette (ONLINE) PT 602ED_ON
with Theodore Xaras
See the techniques of the masters unfold in front of you in this extensive oil painting demonstration. Professional portrait artist Theodore Xaras will reproduce three portrait masterworks, using the historical palettes and techniques of the original artists. Demonstrations will focus on the expanded palette, which employs a broad range of pigments, examining that of Thomas Sully in his historic instructional book, Hints to Young Painters, and as well as those of other artists. This series will feature reproductions of a diverse and informative selection of masterworks: classic work by John Singer Sargent; an astounding hidden gem by his contemporary, Anna Bilińska-Bohdanowicz; and Eduard Charlemont’s 1878 masterpiece, The Moorish Chief. Examinations of portraits by other artists, as well as paint mixing demonstrations, will be included. This lecture series presents valuable content on color and technique for practicing painters, as well as fascinating information for any art lover.
Note: This course is lecture/demo-only but is interactive with plenty of time for student questions. There are no required materials for this class.
