Master Class with Christine Lafuente: Color Hamony in Tonal Painting (ONLINE) IN 609CL_ON
with Christine Lafuente
Brooklyn-based painter and renowned PAFA alum Christine Lafuente is back with an all new oil painting master class. In this class, Christine will relate the concepts of tone, temperature, and key not only to color-mixing and paint-handling techniques, but also to an understanding of light source in the personal studio set-up. Instruction will guide students through a series of investigations of how different light sources affect composition, palette organization, and the building of a painting. Students will work from observation using their own still life or interior set-up, and must be prepared to rearrange studio furniture and move around in their personal painting spaces. Mornings will consist of lecture and demonstration on Zoom, afternoons will be devoted to painting time and individual instruction.

Master Class with John MacDonald: Landscape Painting - Beyond the Photo (ONLINE) IN 605JM_ON
with John MacDonald
Among representational artists, there has been an endless battle between those who paint from life and those who use photographic reference. But it’s a misplaced battle. The source of the visual information we use to paint is irrelevant. The real problem lies not in painting from life or photos but whether we’re simply copying what we see as opposed to using the information as a springboard for creating the paintings we want. In this 5-day workshop, participants will work in the studio from photographic reference of the landscape, using it to create paintings of different value keys, color keys, times of day, and seasons of the year. We’ll break down the information in photos, analyze it, and use it to create tonal sketches, change color palettes, and create paintings based on multiple images, memory, and imagination.
This workshop will take place via live Zoom lectures & demonstrations in the morning and critiques in the afternoon. Individual follow-up critiques will also be available over a period of weeks after the workshop.
