with Roger Chavez

Calendar Current session started Jan 23, 2021 at 10 am, runs for 10 weeks

Figure painting will be explored using a variety of learning methods:

Using direct observation, students will learn from their own body parts, including hands, feet, forearms, and self-portraits to develop a greater understanding of painting the human figure.

Engaging in the long tradition of learning from masters, students will recreate masterworks with nude figures to build knowledge of color use, anatomy, and composition.

Finally, to develop a greater knowledge of the figure, students will learn about the anatomy of the head, torso, and limbs.

Discussions, lectures, and work feedback will be made using Zoom and Canvas platforms. Zoom sessions will be structured to be about 30 minutes at the beginning and 30 at the end of class with students having ample time to work on their own painting in between.
