Pre-College: Portrait Drawing and Painting, DR 714HS

Learn to do excellent portraits, understand portrait structure and how to get a likeness. The instructor will guide students through understanding the anatomy and proportions of the head, how to draw the features, learn how to get a likeness and how to build portrait drawings and paintings for your portfolio. An overview of the history of portraits and portrait styles will be included as well as the materials of making a portrait.
Step by Step photo and video demonstrations will be provided, as well as regular live Zoom meetings for group discussion and critique. Additional demonstrations will include a portrait in acrylic and oil, pastel and self portrait. Students will work in the media of their choice. Projects will range from sketchbook exercises to fully finished works. The online, user friendly platform, Canvas, will be used.
