Realistic Painting Techniques

with Robert Waddington

Saturdays, 9 am - 5 pm

Capture your subjects with confidence as you master the essential components and techniques of realistic oil painting. Informative demonstrations, handouts, and skill-building assignments will address drawing fundamentals for establishing correct proportions and tonal relationships, basic painting materials, color theory, and color tonal values, as well as the physical mixing, application, and blending of paint. Explore old master and modern painting methods, including underpainting, glazing and scumbling. Advanced painting techniques to create highly realistic renderings of materials and textures, such as fabrics and metals, will be explained in detail. A weekly Zoom meeting will be held every Wednesday evening, 7 - 8 p.m., for students to ask questions and present their independent work for critique. Basic drawing skills are a prerequisite for this course.
